Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter

The shelter works hard to care for animals and assist community members. It is not a no-kill shelter and would need substantial more funding in order to be one, due to many factors. A large military population means families often in transition and pets left behind. A large dog mushing community means animals which can't always find a home. Low income community members who love their pets but can't always keep them. Recently budget cuts meant that people needing to make use of euthanization services can no longer be present to say good bye to their pets. A grant to assist in this program would be invaluable in helping pets who are hurting be humanely euthanized in the arms of their families who cannot affort services elsewhere but who wish to do right by their ailing pets.

Pets are incredibly important in our lives here in the north. Dogs, especially, are so important in the lives of Fairbanksans that the local paper gives the names of the dogs before the names of owners in their photo captions! The Shelter here does the very best with the money they have. Their top priority is the welfare of the animals. Any additional money they get will be used to increase adoptions. I echo another comment: "Thank you, FNSB animal shelter, for all you do!

I have adopted 2 great dogs and one very loving cat from the shelter. And gone to the shelter many times with lost dogs . The shelter always helped me find the owners. This community needs a great shelter. Dogs and other pets are an important component of life in the northern latitudes where we need outdoor companions, and also indoor companions to help us make it though the long winters. The shelter helps these animals integrate into our society. This shelter is also supported by a very dedicated community of people that work hard to help pets live and find new homes when needed. I am very proud of the community I live in for their compassion and dedication.

In 1998 I adopted the best dog in the world from this shelter. I named him Shamus and I had a wonderful family member for 12 years. He's been gone 2 years now and I miss him everyday! Thank you FNSB animal shelter for all you do!

In March, we had to put down one of my family's dogs at the shelter for free and all we got to be there for him. We definitely wouldn't have dropped him off to die alone. These pets are family members, not trash. Support humane treatment of our furry loved ones! We also adopted a three-year-old husky from the Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter in February, and have been in love ever since. She's been a great a addition to our family and sweet as can be. Learned quickly and gets along well with our other dog. Thank goodness the shelter is in existence here. They've been an integral part of my pet needs since as long as I can remember. Their services are important to and appreciated by the community. Please support their cause here! Vote FNSB Animal Shelter!

This area is always inundated with animals that are in dire need of help. I live in the Mat Su Valley and volunteer there once a week. I am amazed at what can be done for these animals with a bit of help from the community and also from programs like the Purina one. I do hope many people find this site and vote. by another dog lover.

We found our dog Tigger at the shelter. He is a wonderful loving boy, and we don't know what we would do without him:)

I found the most awesome, loving pet at the Fairbanks Animal Shelter, and feel very fortunate to have had that opportunity. The workers are all very caring and professional and have the animals' best interests at heart.

The Fairbanks North Star borough Animal shelter group has be nothing but wonderful to our family and pets. Three times our family has had to euthanize a family pet and each and every time turned out so much better than expected. We were made to feel care for and along with our pet. They are the best!
