Shelter Website

What makes this shelter great?

The Oregon Humane Society has been around for over a hundred and forty years, and they do more then just find pets homes. This shelter is against cruelty and neglect and when you go to the website you can learn how to report animal negligence, rather the JUST browse pets you might like.
The men and women who work at, or volunteer at, OHS not only look for an animal that is right for the person looking for a pet but also make sure the family is right for that pet. They find homes that work for everyone; if they don't think the pet will be happy at that home, they won't allow the family to adopt that pet, and will try to help them find an animal that will have a more comfortable life with them.
Not only do they make sure to find the right homes for the animals in their care, but their animals are well taken care of and clearly loved by workers/volunteers. The animals are given adequate space as well as excercise.
I feel as though they could do even more with this grant.

I went to OHS a year ago to pick out a feline friend. I was impressed with the thorough counseling and follow up to make sure he was doing well.

Sam has made a wonderful, fun addition to our lives and I follow up with OHS donor support. I'm also impressed with the amount of rescue work i hear about. Thanks OHS! I would love to see them get this grant.

Best Friends Animal Society is very appreciative of the OHS for taking in so many of the homeless little dogs in So. Calif. that otherwise wouldn't make it out the overcrowded shelters!

I can't imagine my life not being a volunteer at OHS. I feel like I am contributing to something so worthwhile. OHS has brainstormed over the years to come up with such a bang up system that works so well to make our loving animal friends happy, healthy and as stressfree as possible during there stay there. They continue to brainstorm daily to even make it better. It is truely a wonderful place.

I couldn't agree more! The Oregon Humane Society is a model for all shelters dedicated to the protection, dignity, shelter and love of all animals. I'm really proud to be a volunteer there.

Our family has adopted one rat and two dogs from this shelter. It is an AMAZING place! They have an incredibly high adoption rate, they help with behavioral issues post-adoption, they do rescues all over the West Coast (not just Oregon), they have a huge cast of volunteers, a dedicated staff, progressive facilities and practices, and they just plain DO GREAT WORK! Please support their wonderful work!

I'm so happy to donate to OHS. I know that they really stretch donations to help as many animals as possible... 86¢ of every dollar goes to programs that help pets find their new homes. They also have one of the highest save rates in the country, 99% of the dogs and 96% of cats find great new families. Whoo Hoo!!

Our daughter has worked for OHS for more than a decade. As any parents wants their child to be happy in work, I emailed Erika once, how much do you enjoy your work. She emailed back, "magine my arms spread out as wide as possible." I remember that image to this day. That's a wonderful statement about your employer and the work she does for those without homes.

I am currently giving all my love and affection to a kitty that I got at OHS. Growing up we always tried to get our doggies there.. I love these guys.. They need all the help they can get doing a job that is difficult to keep your faith in people while doing.

I too submitted OHS for this project, and glad that I was only rejected because someone had already submitted them! My family recently got a kitty at OHS—they've also recently been a resource for a doggy behavioral problem, and the beneficiary of many item donations in the past. We love OHS, and feel they're a great part of the community! Wishing you luck on getting this grant!

Hurrah! OHS does right by its animals, and it's wonderful to see them nominated. With a 99% save rate for dogs and 95% for cats, they can make these dollars WORK HARD for the pets of Oregon!
